These terms apply to Kin & Ledger, a free website of genealogy calculators for relationships, shared DNA, Soundex, Ahnentafel numbers, calendar conversion and generations. By using the site you accept these terms, our Privacy Policy and our Disclaimer. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Using the Calculators

You may use the tools and guides free of charge, without an account, for personal research, society work, teaching and professional genealogy, including quoting results in reports and family histories. Results depend on the values you enter; you are responsible for checking them against original records.

Not Legal, Medical or Genetic Advice

The site does not provide legal, medical or genetic counselling advice. Relationship and DNA estimates must not be used as evidence of parentage, for inheritance or immigration claims, or for medical decisions.

Respecting Living People

When you use results to publish or share family information, respect the privacy and wishes of living people, and follow the terms of any DNA testing service or archive whose data you use.

Third-Party Data

If you copy figures from a DNA testing service or a records website into the calculators, you remain bound by that service's own terms.

Acceptable Use

Do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at a rate that affects other users, introduce malicious code or use it for any unlawful purpose, including harassing or identifying people without their consent.

Intellectual Property

The text, graphics and code of the site belong to Kin & Ledger or its licensors. You may quote short passages with a link back. Coding rules, dates and the results you calculate are not owned by us; organisation and product names belong to their owners and are used only to describe the subject.

Availability and Changes

We aim to keep the site available and correct but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, add or remove tools and content at any time, and update these terms; the date above shows the latest revision.

Limitation of Liability

The site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or distress arising from use of the site, including research conclusions, family disputes or decisions based on relationship estimates, Soundex codes or converted dates. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
