Robertson calls it quits

The 35-year-old, who fell just short of Olympic gold alongside Gail Emms at Athens 2004, was not selected in the Team GB squad for this summer's Olympics.

And the omission has led Robertson to call time on a career that has seen him win a total of 10 medals at Olympic, world and Commonwealth level.

"So I can now officially say. I AM RETIRED.... Thank you to everyone who supported and helped me throughout my entire career," Robertson posted on Twitter.

"The truly special people already know how thankful and respectful I am of them. I leave with great memories and even better friendships."

Robertson, who partnered Emms to the mixed doubles world title in Madrid six years ago, said he left the sport with no regrets despite his omission from London 2012.
